Learning Revit is your entry ticket into the vast world of BIM (Building Information Modelling). BIM is a relatively new concept, and hence there is a huge need for skilled manpower in this field. Currently, BIM Software like Revit is used by individuals, businesses, and government agencies who plan, design construct, and maintain different physical infrastructures like bridges, ports, gas, water, electricity, communication utilities, etc.
BIM refers to a unified system where all teams working on designing a building can work together, on a unified system of computer models rather than everyone having separate drawings. BIM describes a system of designing where multiple teams can work simultaneously on the same file with consistency and awareness of each other’s work.
This offers enormous time gains and reduced costs, improved accuracy in the estimation, and the elimination of any errors due to information loss. But using BIM involves much more than just changing the software used. It’s a whole new paradigm and everyone in the construction industry has lots to learn. This creates a lot of new room for skilled manpower with the knowledge of BIM.
Revit is the most used tool in the industry for designers and architects. It is slowly becoming the preferred tool for Trade Contractors also. Revit teaches you so much about databases, information, buildings, design. Revit is the authoring tool for almost all Architectural and Structural models out there today. In the industry, if you know Revit, you can do estimating, create logistics plans, and overall be a better coordinator.
For systems trades (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.) AutoCAD is the software preferred, but Autodesk is making constant efforts to shift them to Revit. Once Autodesk is successful and this transition is over, Navisworks and BIM 360 Glue will be useless.
What we’re missing from Construction BIM models are the construction elements. You can model in the cranes, buck hoists, platforms, safety railings, break up pours, excavate topography, construction fences, temp roads, fall protection zones, the list goes on using Revit, and hence anyone who knows Revit can fill the void.
Building Information Modeling is an exceptional 3D model-based process that gives Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure.
The benefits of using Revit in different industries, and the job opportunities available in these industries –
Architecture: Make better design decisions, improve building performance, and collaborate more effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
Civil: Use intelligent, connected workflows to help improve predictability, productivity, and profitability
Construction: Digitize your construction site and connect project information from design through construction and handover.
MEP: Improve MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design quality and collaborate in real-time to support the project delivery process.
Plant: Manage the design and construction of intelligent piping, structures, and processes more efficiently and collaboratively throughout the project lifecycle and at hand-off.
Structures: Explore how structural design and detailing software helps you win new business and support project delivery.
As the demand for BIM professionals goes up across the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, what are the long-term prospects of such a career? It is the latest game-changer as a technology solution.
The list of job positions that are available for freshers are – BIM Technician (MEP) – Mechanical/Electrical/ Plumbing, Revit BIM Modeller (Structural/ Architectural/ Electrical), BIM Manager, BIM Designer, Bim Coordinator – Civil 3d, Revit/ Bim modeler (MEP), Structural BIM Modeler, Business Development Manager, BIM/ Revit – Draughtsman, Modeler- BIM – Revit-Structures (RFI), BIM-HVAC-MEP, BIM Structural Engineer, BIM Software Developer, and many more.
